The Oregon State Bar Oregon Law Help Team
Keren is an attorney with a background in civil legal aid and family defense. Throughout her career in direct services, she has worked in offices that provide interdisciplinary support to clients, an approach to service delivery that recognizes people often face legal and other life challenges simultaneously. Before her current position, Keren held several leadership roles, including leading the Parent Child Representation Program at the Office of Public Defense Services in Oregon and serving as the Attorney-in-Charge of the Employment and Education Unit of Brooklyn Defense Services in New York.
Keren's legal career began as a family defense attorney at the Bronx Defenders, followed by a role as a staff attorney at New York Lawyers for the Public Interest, with a focus on disability justice. Keren received her J.D. from New York University in 2007. She also holds an M.Ed. in Child Development and Policy from Harvard Graduate School of Education, obtained in 2004, and a bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley, earned in 2002.
Keren is excited to contribute to the Oregon Law Help project, collaborating with the team and Advisory Committee to develop innovative strategies that address the civil legal needs of historically underserved and low-income Oregonians.
Christine joined the Oregon State Bar in August 2023. She brings a unique blend of legal, design, and communication skills to the Oregon Law Help team. She previously served as the Family Law Program Director at The Commons Law Center, a non-profit offering affordable services to Oregon's low-to-middle-income families. Before that, Christine worked as a staff attorney at Legal Aid Services of Oregon from 2017 to 2022, focusing on cases involving domestic violence, housing, administrative law, and public benefits. Christine earned her J.D. from Lewis and Clark Law School in 2016.
Before law school, Christine worked as graphic designer and part-time wedding photographer. She graduated in 2010 from Walla Walla University with a degree in graphic design and a minor in marketing.
Christine loves being able to blend her design and communications skills with her legal background. She is passionate about de-mystifying the legal system so that everyday Oregonians can understand the laws that protect them and how to assert their rights.
As a bilingual attorney and former journalist, Leland brings a background in professional writing, the law, and community engagement to the Oregon Law Help team. After earning a degree in journalism from the University of Oregon in 2003, Leland spent nearly 5 years living and working in Latin America as a journalist. Leland embarked on a second career as a lawyer after working in an immigration law office and seeing first-hand the injustices individuals and families faced when they encountered the legal system.
Leland's career as a lawyer has included clerking at the Oregon Court of Appeals, helping to launch an immigration defense program at Metropolitan Public Defender, serving as the Immigrants' Rights Attorney at the ACLU of Oregon, and leading statewide policy efforts as the Director of Advocacy for Latino Network. Most recently, Leland served as the Director of Community Lawyering and Movement Building for Oregon Consumer Justice.
Leland is grateful for the opportunity to help dismantle barriers to legal information and support equitable access to justice for all Oregonians.
The Oregon Law Help team also gets cross-department support from members of our legal, IT, and communications teams.
